Chinese Data Centres

In China, there are many IT cloud and data centre services companies.

Most data centres in China are owned and operated;

• Chinese network companies
• Large national IT companies, such as Alibaba, Tencent **
• Government agencies
• Large network companies: China Telecom, China Unicom, China Mobile

** Overseas IT companies do not operate in China (e.g., Amazon, Google). The exception is Microsoft, which operates a JV in China.

If you host public internet content in a Chinese data centre, an Internet Content Provider (ICP) licence or filing is normally required.

Operating standards across Chinese data centre platforms vary widely.

Many IT services are now delivered through platforms that integrate social media and IT services—the most successful of which is WeChat (Tencent).

Very fast growth in Chinese Data Centres

To enable internet use to grow quickly in China, the Chinese government funded the construction of data centres through regional and national businesses.

Local and regional government agencies administer and monitor the publishing of information independently of any data centre ownership. Their main concern is data made available to the public. Data that flows through company systems within data centres and is not publicly available is generally not an issue, provided the Chinese business is operating legally.

Given the speed at which data centres have been built in China, the operating standards can be an issue. We only use Data Centres that are internationally certified.

The growth of platforms combining social media and IT services has enabled the integration of government and public services into a single app.

Access to China Chinese data centre pricing

There are many types of services, so providing detailed pricing without outline specifications is not possible.

In general, Chinese data centre services are about 20% more expensive than overseas cloud services, primarily due to higher international internet connection costs. This is normally due to higher internet connection costs.
